AUGUST INVESTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Automotus
New York Angels member Murat Köprülü was immediately impressed when he first met Automotus Co-Founder & CEO Jordan Justus through Techstars. Last month, NYA individual members made a significant investment in Automotus for its new-to-the-world automated curb management solution that helps reduce emissions, congestion and safety hazards. Automotus has already launched across the country, including in cities (Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Miami, Boston and Omaha), airports (LAX), and partnerships (Amazon's AWS Sustainable Cities).
NYSHEX
When NYSHEX CEO Gordon Downes first presented to the New York Angels, he did not gain investment. After additional NYA support and coaching from Donna Redel, he successfully raised his first seed round with a few individual NYA members. Then when Gordon returned to NYA for additional investment in NYSHEX's recent Series B, he gained significant traction with a large number of New York Angels members. With Gordon's domain expertise, NYSHEX has built the only neutral ocean freight contracting exchange that connects shippers with ocean carriers, ultimately improving global supply chain efficiency.
True Made Foods
When Michael Brennan met CEO & Founder Abraham Kamarck, he knew Kamarck was special - as a veteran, he demonstrated ideal leadership characteristics. In May 2016, New York Angels individual members first invested in True Made Foods. True Made Foods uses real veggies and fruits, instead of refined sugars, to make America's favorite sauces: Ketchup, BBQ Sauce and Sriracha Hot Sauce. Most recently, New York Angels individual members re-invested behind True Made Foods' national retail growth and food service expansion. True Made Foods is also the condiment vendor at two ballparks – Washington and Boston – with more on the way.
COMPANY EXIT
BIOREZ
New York Angels members made their first investments in Biorez's Seed 2 round in March 2018. At that time, Biorez developed a 100% ACL graft replacement. In 2019, Biorez CEO & Founder Kevin Rocco identified the opportunity to pivot the company's focus to BioBrace, which augments healing of grafts and other ligament and tendon repairs instead of the company's original 1:1 replacement. In July 2019, NYA led the Seed 3 to fund this pivot. Now, three short years later, Conmed announced a definitive agreement to acquire Biorez for cash consideration of $85 million at closing, subject to adjustment, and up to an additional $165 million in growth-based earnout payments over the next four years. New York Angels individual members led Kasisto's Seed Round in 2014 and invested again in 2017. This August, Kasisto announced raising $15.5M in its Series C extension to fund additional product development, strategic go-to-market initiatives, and the expansion of partnerships with top financial services providers. Kasisto is the industry leader in conversational artificial intelligence (AI), and its KAI platform powers the most intelligent and financially savvy digital assistants in the financial services industry. US Integrity
U.S. Integrity partners with teams, leagues, licensed sportsbooks and regulators to ensure sports betting integrity. Using its proprietary dashboard, U.S. Integrity conducts analysis across dozens of data sets to proactively identify and flag irregular contest-level, officiating and wagering patterns. This August, U.S. Integrity announced two key partnerships with Silver Reef Casino and 7 Cedars Casino. New York Angels led the Seed Round for U.S. Integrity and individual members invested in 2021.
